An organization is the shared workspace that owns resources several people use together, rather than each person working from an isolated account. Members and administrators manage those shared resources in one place.
An organization holds:
- Shared custom domains and their settings.
- Organization membership and roles — see Inviting members.
- Authentication for everyone in it — see Single Sign-On (SSO).
- A common record of what happened to the organization’s secrets — see Secret Activity.
You already have one
Section titled “You already have one”Every signed-in account belongs to an organization. If you never invite anyone, it stays in the background: it is created for you the first time you reach a feature that needs it, and it cannot be deleted.
The app uses organization and workspace for the same thing, and you will see both words on screen.
An organization has three roles, and each one includes everything the role below it can do:
- Owner — full access to all organization settings and members.
- Admin — can manage members and most organization settings.
- Member — basic access to organization resources.
Organization settings are reachable only by owners and admins. A member uses the organization’s shared resources but does not administer them.
